Marugame Seimen

Marugame Seimen is a worldwide udon family retsurant chain that takes pride in its noodles, made inside each location. Fresh, pleasantly chewy udon can be enjoyed in every location.

There are both warm and cold udon dishes, and some is only served hot (Kamaage Udon) or cold (Zaru Udon) while others can be served as both.

Marugame Seimen takes a largely self-service operating style. First, you have to order than udon. Tell the staff the kind of udon you want, along with the size (you can choose from Regular: 1 serving, Large: 1.5 servings, or Extra Large: 2 servings) and whether you want it warm or cold (if it can be chosen). The staff will quickly make the udon in front of you. After they finish making the udon, you can take it, put it on your tray and go to the Omusubi/Tempura area.

If you want to have some omusubi (rice balls) or tempura, you can take them in a plate. The Chicken Tempura (also called Kashiwaten) is the most popular, but the Shrimp Tempura (Ebiten) and Mixed-vegetable Tempura (Kakiage) is also popular. Rice bowls can be ordered in some locations, so some people make a Tendon (several kinds of tempura topped on rice).

For omusibi, there’s Salmon, Inari (sushi rice wrapped in sweet fried tofu), Kelp, Spicy Cod Roe and Plum. Oyakodon (rice topped with eggs and chicken, flavored with broth) can be ordered in some locations.

It’s hard to choose between all those delicious things! Once you’ve got everything you want on your plate, it’s time to pay at the cash register. There’s a place next to th cash register with condiments you can put on your udon, such as green onion, grated ginger, and tempura flakes. You can put as much as you want. There’s also some water and tea nearby.

There are chopsticks, shichimi, and broth sauce on your table, which you’re also free to use. Enjoy your nice, chewy udon! When you finish eating, please go return your plates at the return slot.

There’s a takeout menu at Marugame Seimen, where you can order just tempura if you weren’t in the mood for udon. Not all kinds of udon at Marukame Seimen can be taken out, so you have to check whether the one you want can be taken out before you order. You can order at the same place as when you eat inside the restaurant, but make sure that you tell the staff that you want to take out. They will give you one condiment cup per udon dish. Please enjoy your udon while it’s still fresh!
